Navab Nassirshalal has resigned from his position as the head coach of Iran’s national weightlifting team.

The 33-year-old coach took over Team Melli in March of the previous year, replacing Saeid Alihosseini. Nassirshalal had previously served as an assistant coach to Sajad Anoushiravani at the 2016 Olympic Games.

During his tenure, Nassirshalal led Iran at major international events, including the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jinju, South Korea, the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and the 2024 IWF World Championships in Bahrain.

Several prominent figures are being considered to take over the coaching role, including 2000 Olympic champion Hossein Tavakolli, 2012 gold medalist Behdad Salimi, and former Iran coach Koroush Bagheri.

As a weightlifter, Nassirshalal competed in the 2012 London Olympics, where he initially won a silver medal in the 105 kg division. After Oleksiy Torokhtiy of Ukraine was disqualified for doping, Nassirshalal was awarded the gold medal. He also competed in the 2014 Asian Games and the 2015 World Championships but did not make a mark in the clean and jerk events on either occasion.
