Oyo Weightlifting Association Appoints New Chairman, Promises to Revamp

Bolarinwa Kashif, the founder and chairman of Fly Fitness, has vowed to revamp weightlifting in Oyo State after being appointed as the new chairman of the Oyo State Weightlifting Association. Kashif’s appointment was officially confirmed on January 23, 2025, by the Oyo State Sports Council for a two-year term. The council’s acting general manager, K. A. Ojelowo, issued a letter outlining the responsibilities of Kashif’s new role, highlighting his duty to oversee the development of weightlifting in the state under the council’s supervision.

The letter read: “Given your background, we trust you will use this appointment to take weightlifting in Oyo State to new heights.”

In response, Kashif expressed gratitude for the council’s trust and vowed to use his expertise in fitness and sports development to elevate weightlifting in the state.

“This is a great opportunity to make a significant impact on weightlifting in Oyo State. We plan to introduce programs for growth, identify and nurture talent, and raise awareness about the sport,” Kashif said.

He also emphasized the importance of involving youth in sports administration, noting that young leaders bring fresh ideas that can drive meaningful change. “For years, we have urged the government to place more trust in young people for leadership roles. This appointment shows they are beginning to recognize our potential, and I am determined to make the most of it,” he added.

Kashif’s appointment has been met with optimism within the sports community, with many hopeful that his leadership will boost participation, improve infrastructure, and lead to greater success for weightlifting in Oyo State.
