Jonathan Van Ness, star of Queer Eye, is sharing his weight loss journey with fans after losing 66 pounds. On Sunday, February 23, the 37-year-old hair stylist posted before-and-after photos on his Instagram Story, proudly showing his progress.
Van Ness first opened up about his weight loss in January, revealing that he had been using a GLP-1 medication, which includes drugs like Ozempic, to help manage a binge eating disorder. GLP-1 medications are often used to treat diabetes and assist with weight loss.
“I have a confession to make. Yes, I am on a GLP-1 or a weight-loss medication,” Van Ness said in a TikTok post on January 8. He explained that he had struggled with weight fluctuations in the past and needed extra support this time. He had previously tried weight loss pills without success and switched to injectable GLP-1 to help control his eating habits.
“I was feeling awful and my binge-eating disorder was out of control,” he shared. “For the first time, I have control over my food intake.” He started the injections in September 2024 and immediately felt better, stating that the medication helped him avoid the compulsive eating and regret that had caused him to feel depressed and out of control.
Van Ness emphasized the importance of asking for help when needed. “It has helped me so massively,” he said. “Asking for help can change your life, and this time, I needed help.”
Van Ness is not alone in using GLP-1 medications for weight loss. Actor Josh Gad also revealed in January that he had lost 40 pounds using the medication. He explained that it helped control hunger by reducing psychological cravings, though he noted that it should not replace a healthy relationship with food and exercise.
“This is life-changing, but it doesn’t negate the fact that it can’t be in place of having a healthy relationship with food,” Gad said. “My primary goal is to be there for my kids, and everything else is secondary.”
