Hereford Mum’s Weight Loss Journey with Slimming World Food Optimization

by Lana Green

A mother from Hereford says her life has been “saved” after losing nearly five stone, a journey that has significantly improved both her physical and mental health.

Amanda Collis, who had been suffering from severe pain affecting her daily life, was prescribed a daily dose of morphine. Initially, her main motivation to lose weight was to feel better for her son’s wedding, but she also wanted to improve her overall health and happiness.

44 weeks ago, Amanda joined Jo Diggle’s Slimming World group, and since then, she has lost an impressive four stone, 10 pounds. Before starting her weight loss journey, Amanda struggled with low confidence and hadn’t been on vacation for years due to discomfort and embarrassment. Simple tasks like walking her dog left her exhausted, and she lived with constant pain.

Reflecting on the past year, Amanda said, “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster. I’ve dropped five sizes, and even my shoes are too big now. I’ve come off my prescribed daily morphine because my pain has improved dramatically. My health has improved beyond belief.”

She also shared how her journey has been about more than just losing weight. “This experience has changed my life,” she continued. “Walking into that group saved my life. I’m happier and more fulfilled than I’ve been in years, and I’m excited to share my story with others.”

Amanda followed Slimming World’s food optimising plan, which includes a variety of over 350 nutritious, “free foods” that don’t require weighing or measuring. Her meals now include healthier options, such as fruit and yogurt for breakfast, soup or potatoes with cheese and salad for lunch, and salmon for dinner. She also enjoys healthy snacks like fruit, HiFi bars, and smaller chocolate bars.

“Tough moments motivated me to push harder and stay committed,” Amanda explained. “I discovered new foods and strategies that worked for me, and I had time to embrace them fully.”

Now, Amanda is pursuing a new career as a Slimming World consultant. Her consultant, Jo Diggle, praised her for her transformation, saying, “Amanda’s confidence and energy have grown tremendously. Her smile is twice as big as it used to be! Her enthusiasm for trying new foods and seeing results is infectious, and I’m thrilled that she will be sharing her passion with others in her own group.”

Starting March 29, Amanda will be holding Slimming World sessions at Northolme Community Centre on Saturdays at 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. For more information, contact Amanda at 07792 268256 or attend one of her sessions.
