A Pinecrest woman is facing criminal charges after allegedly selling weight-loss lollipops laced with medication without a medical license, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Yanelys Fundora Acebo, 44, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with three offenses: practicing a health-care profession without a license, dispensing drugs without a license, and possessing a controlled substance.
The investigation began on September 27, when the MDSO received a complaint that Acebo was selling lollipops containing phentermine, tirzepatide, and semaglutide, at her business, “X Lash by Yane.” These drugs are key ingredients in the popular weight-loss medications Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound. Phentermine is classified as a Schedule IV controlled substance, meaning it can be misused, while tirzepatide and semaglutide are prescription-only medications for weight loss.
An undercover MDSO agent visited Acebo’s business the same day and purchased three lollipops without providing a doctor’s prescription or identification. The lollipops were sent to the MDSO lab, where they tested positive for phentermine.
According to arrest documents, Acebo promoted her business on Instagram, advertising weight-loss products, including phentermine, tirzepatide, and semaglutide, along with other supplements and drugs available for shipping across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The page also featured videos of Acebo injecting herself with the medications.
Further investigation by the Florida Department of Health revealed that neither Acebo nor her business had a license to prescribe medication.
On March 12, an undercover agent returned to Acebo’s business and bought 10 more lollipops containing phentermine for $200. During the transaction, Acebo joked that the agent had “won the lottery” by purchasing all the lollipops she had left. These lollipops were also seized as evidence.
The following day, MDSO executed a search warrant at Acebo’s business. After being informed of her rights, Acebo was arrested and booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
