Calo, a Saudi-based foodtech startup, has officially entered the UK market by acquiring two British ready-meal delivery brands: Fresh Fitness Food and Detox Kitchen. This marks Calo’s first international expansion outside the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) since it launched in 2019.
Founded in Bahrain by Ahmed Alrawi and Moayed Almoayed, Calo provides personalised meal subscriptions designed for fitness and dietary goals. The company currently operates in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar. In 2024, Calo delivered over 10 million meals. Its platform uses a nutritionist-approved algorithm that customises meal plans based on body measurements, fitness targets, and user preferences.
As part of the acquisition, Fresh Fitness Food customers will transition to Calo’s service in May. Detox Kitchen customers will move over this month. Both customer groups will have access to similar meal plan options through Calo’s platform.
In the UK, Calo will offer a range of ready-to-eat meals, with prices starting at £11 per day. Meals will be prepared daily at a London-based kitchen. Deliveries within London will be handled by Calo’s own fleet, while DPD will manage deliveries across the rest of the country. Calo is also exploring plans to build its own national delivery network.
This UK expansion follows Calo’s recent $25 million Series B funding round. The round was led by Nuwa Capital and included investments from STV and Khwarizmi Ventures. The company’s valuation is now around $250 million. Looking ahead, Calo plans to expand further into Europe and the United States.
