BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Baton Rouge residents can kick off the new year by reaching their fitness goals and enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, thanks to BREC’s parks and recreation system.
BREC is offering affordable memberships to its fitness facilities at Milton J. Womack Park, Santa Maria Park, Anna T. Jordan Community Park, and North Sherwood Forest Community Park. Visitors can sign up for classes in line dancing, martial arts, hip hop, Zumba, and more.
For young people, the BREC Golf’s First Tee Spring Program provides an opportunity to learn life skills through golf. Sessions are held at five BREC golf courses on weekday afternoons, and registration opens on Monday, February 3.
Additionally, BREC has announced several exciting upcoming events:
5th Annual Swamp Art Spectacular: Artists were invited to submit works reflecting the theme “Impressions of Louisiana Nature.” The selected pieces will be displayed at BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp from Jan. 17 to Feb. 23. A reception on Feb. 23 will offer a chance to meet the artists.
2nd Annual Art for Animals Festival: Held at the Baton Rouge Zoo from Feb. 2 through May 9, this event features artwork depicting animals in their natural habitats. Artists were selected in December, and their works will be displayed in the new Zoo atrium. A reception and awards ceremony for the artists will take place on May 3.
