Manteca, Calif. — A homeless man was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly attacking a woman at a Manteca Planet Fitness.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. at the gym located on Yosemite Avenue. According to the Manteca Police Department, 41-year-old Trumaine Walden, who was not a member of the gym, entered the facility and started pulling a woman by her hair. Other gym members intervened, taking Walden to the ground and restraining him until officers arrived.
Police confirmed that Walden did not know the woman. He was arrested on charges of battery and probation violation before being taken to the San Joaquin County jail.
During a search, officers discovered Walden was carrying a rubber hatchet. While the item was not used in the attack, police cautioned the public about the potential dangers of imitation weapons. They emphasized that such items could be mistaken for real weapons, and officers must make quick decisions when faced with them.
“The public should be aware that toy weapons can be easily mistaken for actual weapons. We advise against carrying or displaying these items in public,” the police department stated.
