Country music star Colt Ford shared heartfelt advice with fellow musician Jelly Roll about weight loss and maintaining good health, drawing from his own personal experiences.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, the 54-year-old Ford, who is both a singer and songwriter, discussed how difficult it can be for someone known as a “big guy” to make the decision to lose weight. He reflected on Jelly Roll’s impressive weight loss journey, during which the singer shed more than 100 pounds.
Ford offered Jelly Roll some reassurance, explaining that when you’re known for your size, the idea of losing weight can stir up doubts. “You start to think, ‘What if I lose weight? Are they still going to like me?'” Ford recalled telling Jelly Roll. “I thought that for a long time, too. But as long as you stay true to yourself and treat others well, people won’t care.”
Ford himself used to weigh 340 pounds but now weighs 290 after making major lifestyle changes for his health.
In 2022, Ford’s health took a turn when he was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that weakens muscles. His health crisis worsened in April 2024, when he suffered a near-fatal heart attack. By that time, he had already lost 250 pounds. Since then, Ford has shed an additional 60 pounds, continuing his journey toward better health.
