Billionaire Harsh Goenka, chairman of the RPG Group, recently shared his humorous take on a popular weight loss drink after trying it for two months, only to see no weight loss results.
The drink, a warm honey-lemon water mix consumed on an empty stomach, is often marketed as an effective morning remedy for shedding extra pounds and boosting metabolism. However, Goenka found no such benefits, and instead, he joked about losing the ingredients themselves rather than weight.
In a viral post on X, Goenka wrote, “I was told that if you drink lemon juice with honey every morning for two months, you will lose 2 kg of weight. After two months, I had lost 2 kg of lemons and 3 kg of honey.” His witty comment quickly caught the attention of many social media users, sparking laughter.
One user joked, “The only thing that got lighter was your kitchen stock! Weight loss myths are undefeated, but at least you got a refreshing morning drink out of it.” Another shared their own experience, saying, “I lost 50 kg of water along with the lemon and honey.”
Goenka’s tweet humorously pointed out that while the lemons and honey vanished, the weight stayed put. “Such are the ironies of life and diet fads!” one commenter remarked. Another user added, “At least you gained a good sense of humor. Nothing goes to waste in this world.”
A comparison to the green tea weight loss myth also surfaced, with a user quipping, “The only way to lose weight with green tea is by actually climbing a mountain, picking fresh tea leaves, boiling them, and then drinking tea.
Experts have weighed in on the subject as well. Mumbai-based dermatologist Madhuri Aggarwal clarified that there is no scientific evidence supporting the claim that honey, lemon, and water promote weight loss.
Dietitian Anshul explained that while the drink may not directly lead to weight loss, it could help soothe the digestive system and aid in weight management. She added that the combination of honey and lemon may help curb cravings, which could contribute to maintaining a healthy weight.
