Oprah Winfrey has revealed new details about her weight loss journey, including the weight loss medication she has been using, reports Today.
Oprah Winfrey’s Weight Loss Journey
The famous TV host shared that she has been taking a GLP-1 agonist, a specific type of weight loss medication. While Winfrey did not specify the exact brand, common GLP-1 medications include Ozempic and Trulicity.
Her weight loss became widely noticed when she appeared at the red carpet premiere of The Color Purple remake in December 2023. Winfrey shared that she no longer cares about others’ opinions regarding her appearance. “I’m completely done caring about what people say about me,” she said.
The Medication Oprah Uses
Winfrey confirmed that she takes a GLP-1 agonist, a class of medication that mimics the hormone GLP-1. This hormone is released after eating, helping people feel full and slowing down the rate at which the stomach empties.
In a December 2023 interview with People, Winfrey revealed she was using weight loss medication, though she did not name the specific drug. Many have speculated that she is using Ozempic, a popular GLP-1 agonist approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for type 2 diabetes treatment, with weight loss as a known side effect.
Winfrey explained, “Now I use it as I feel like I need it, as a tool to manage. It makes me feel full.”
A Balanced Approach to Weight Loss
In addition to using weight loss medication, Winfrey’s weight loss strategy includes a healthy diet and regular exercise. She emphasized that medication is just one part of her plan. “I eat my last meal at 4 p.m., drink plenty of water, and focus on calorie counting,” she said. She also increased her physical activity, particularly walking, to maintain her weight.
