Fitness Coach Defends Gold Weightlifting Title

by Lana Green

A fitness coach from North Devon has successfully defended her title at the British Weightlifting Championships.

Lottie Miles, from Bideford, claimed gold in the women’s over-35s 81kg category at the British Masters Weightlifting Championships in Bangor, Wales, on Sunday.

Miles, who started weightlifting just five years ago during the Covid-19 lockdown, won her first British Masters gold two years ago in Glasgow.

She admitted that a poor night’s sleep, caused by storms and wind, left her struggling before the competition. Despite this, she said she was “really happy” with the result. To manage the lack of sleep, Miles opted for “relatively safe weights,” but still won her category with lifts of 70kg in the snatch and 90kg in the clean and jerk.

The British Masters is a biennial competition for senior weightlifters.
