Crunch Fitness is moving ahead with its expansion plans in India, signing a master franchise agreement that will introduce at least 75 new gyms across the country in the coming years. This decision is part of the brand’s commitment to establishing a strong presence by 2025.
The expansion will be led by Nikhil Kakkar, the former chief operating officer of Gold’s Gym India, and Dr. Umesh Kansal, a business partner and CEO in the fitness, financial, and apparel sectors.
“India is a vibrant and dynamic market with a growing passion for fitness,” said Jim Rowley, CEO of Crunch Fitness. “We are excited to bring the Crunch experience to India with our world-class amenities, innovative classes, and inclusive community. This move reflects our dedication to making fitness accessible, engaging, and fun for everyone, no matter where they are.”
Crunch Fitness’ entry into India comes as the company is rolling out its new 3.0 gym design in the U.S. The updated gym layout will include aesthetic improvements, upgraded fitness equipment, and dedicated recovery spaces. The first Crunch 3.0 gym will open in Orlando, Florida, later this fall.
India has become a hotspot for fitness businesses in recent years. A report by Morgan Stanley last January highlighted the country’s growing population, rising disposable income, and youthful demographic as key drivers for this boom. Several global fitness brands have already recognized the potential of the Indian market. Last summer, Drive Fitt, co-launched by Bollywood actress Preity G. Zinta and cricket star Shubman Gill, revealed plans to expand with 300 franchises across India. The gym will offer both standard fitness services and cricket training.
In addition, Orangetheory opened a new studio in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, in August, while UFC Gym expanded with a second training facility in North East India last fall. UFC Gym plans to open ten more gyms in state capitals within the next year.
Anytime Fitness is also focusing on India, aiming to open over 500 gyms across key states within the next 3-5 years. Meanwhile, UK-based easyGym has entered a partnership with FranGlobal to launch more than 100 gyms across the country.
With these expansions, India is quickly becoming a major hub for fitness brands looking to tap into a rapidly growing market.
