Kathy Bates has opened up about how her recent weight loss has positively impacted her career.
The 76-year-old actress, who previously shared she had lost 100 pounds (45 kilograms), explained that the lifestyle change has had a “magnificent” effect on her work.
In a new interview with People, Kathy recalled the difficulties she faced while filming Harry’s Law in 2011. “When I was so heavy, I had to sit down between every take, and it was awful,” she said. “I’m ashamed to have put myself through that, to be honest.”
Now, with improved health, Kathy feels more energetic. “I can move, I can breathe, I can have fun, and I’m not sore,” she shared. “I get tired, but even the kids get tired. It’s been a magnificent experience.”
She added, “I never expected to have this at my age, at the end of my career.”
Kathy also revealed that her decision to lose weight followed a type 2 diabetes diagnosis in 2017. She acknowledged that the process was challenging, especially during the pandemic.
The weight loss journey aligned with her role in the 2024 TV series Matlock. “Physically, I’m capable of doing this show,” Kathy said. “I don’t have to sit down. I can stand, walk, move, breathe, and do things I couldn’t before.”
Previously, Kathy mentioned she lost 80 pounds (36 kilograms) through lifestyle changes and diet. The remaining 20 pounds (9 kilograms) were shed with the help of the anti-diabetic medication Ozempic.
