Yung Miami’s Podcast Comment on Lizzo’s Weight Loss Sparks Awkward Moment

by Lana Green

Yung Miami learned the hard way that talking about Lizzo’s weight loss can lead to uncomfortable situations. During a recent appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast with Shannon Sharpe, the City Girls rapper discussed how women often face societal pressure to meet beauty standards. She used Lizzo, who reportedly lost about 50 pounds through diet and exercise, as an example.

Yung Miami, whose real name is Caresha Brownlee, said, “Everybody was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s so fat.’ She looks so good now. Now it’s like, ‘Oh my God, eww.’ Like, pick a side. What do you want?”

The comment quickly led to a surprising moment when Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, called into the livestream. The awkward exchange was shared by The Shade Room on Instagram.

“What is the eww?” Lizzo asked. “I have to know!” Yung Miami quickly clarified that she was defending Lizzo, not criticizing her new body. “Before, like, your weight loss, people used to say, ‘Oh my God, she needs to lose weight, she’s too thick,’” Yung Miami explained, her words stumbling a bit. “That’s what I was referring to.”

“Oh, got you,” Lizzo responded.

Yung Miami continued her defense, saying, “It’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Everybody says you look good, but then you’ll have that 5 percent that says, ‘She looked better when she was fat.’ People always have something to say about women’s bodies. I don’t know why.”

The conversation ended shortly after. Many commenters on The Shade Room’s post agreed that Yung Miami’s words were not meant to be disrespectful, and that Lizzo overreacted. One user commented, “There truly was nothing to clarify. She wasn’t hating at all,” while another wrote, “She wasn’t coming for you. She was literally on your side, but OK!” Some also pointed out, “Read the room, Lizzo. She wasn’t being mean or malicious at all. She was being nice and complimentary.”
