BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge gym has teamed up with Kingdom of Heaven Ministries to provide fitness classes aimed at helping young people stay active while learning the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Travis Stewart, owner of Stew Compound, shared that the gym is more than just a fitness center—it’s part of a larger movement focused on promoting health. Stewart collaborates with schools to combat the growing issue of childhood obesity, a nationwide concern.

“We want to address this problem because it directly affects education, self-esteem, and leads to various health issues,” he explained.

Two participants, Pyper Young and Erin Carter, shared their experiences in the fitness classes. “I did some a-skips and high knee walks to warm up, and I’m feeling really good,” said Young.

Carter, who dreams of becoming a track star, said she’s using these classes to get in shape for her goal.

Stewart noted that the classes take place on Monday afternoons and also focus on mental health. He hopes this partnership marks the beginning of more fitness initiatives in the Baton Rouge area.
