Shedeur Sanders, former quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes and rising star in American football, has opened up about his weight management journey and dietary changes.
The NFL hopeful revealed that after gaining some unwanted weight, he made significant changes to his diet. One of the key adjustments was replacing cow’s milk with almond milk, a drink known for its ability to help lower cholesterol and manage weight.
In a vlog shared last month, Sanders reflected on his eating habits, particularly after his parents’ divorce, which led to a shift in his diet. He explained that under his father’s less watchful eye, his eating habits changed. “Our diet out of high school? I always ate green, organic – you know, my mom is organic – she raised us that way. Then when they split, I spent more time with my dad, and he let us eat whatever we wanted. That’s when I started to get a little chunky,” Sanders said.
He went on to explain that despite this change, he still leaned towards healthier foods. “I eat a lot of salads and clean food. I don’t eat fast food, not really. I only eat certain fast food – like McDonald’s. But other than that, I like almond milk. I don’t drink anything else,” Sanders added. “I cook, and I try to stay healthy.”
Interestingly, in March, Sanders made headlines for partnering with popular fast-food chain Wendy’s, which seems to contradict his personal diet preferences. However, his vlog also featured a meal that supports his commitment to healthier eating. The meal included mac and cheese, broccoli, and grilled chicken, showing that Sanders practices what he preaches when it comes to eating clean.
Almond milk, which can be purchased for as little as 99p in UK supermarkets like Sainsbury’s, has gained popularity in recent years. Health experts, including those from Healthline, note that plant-based milk alternatives are generally lower in calories than regular dairy milk and can help with weight management.
For those looking to cut calories, switching to almond milk may be a helpful option, as it is naturally low in carbohydrates. However, sweetened versions can contain more calories. Almond milk is also rich in Vitamin E, which can help reduce inflammation and stress, while offering protection against heart disease and cancer.
Additionally, the drink has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiometabolic diseases like heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. A 2017 study found that people who switched to plant-based milk saw a reduction in cholesterol levels. Almond milk is also a good source of vitamins A and D, as well as calcium, making it a nutritious alternative to dairy milk.
